Trump Slams Canadian Dollar Imbalance as Trade Tensions Intensify
US President Donald Trump has criticized the exchange-rate gap between the Canadian and US dollars, calling it 'unacceptable.'
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that Canada's dollar imbalance with the US is unacceptable. He did not provide further explanation or details.
The Canadian dollar has historically been weaker than its US counterpart, trading at an average of 1:1.24 CAD/USD over the past 15 years. However, it briefly reached parity during the commodity boom from 2007-2012 and has mostly traded between 1.20 and 1.45 CAD/USD since 2015.
The current exchange rate is around 1.38 CAD/USD, making one Canadian dollar worth approximately 72 US cents. A weaker Canadian dollar makes Canadian goods cheaper for US buyers and US goods more expensive for Canadian consumers.
