Trump Slams 'Unacceptable' Canadian Dollar Exchange Rate Disparity
US President Donald Trump has criticized what he views as an imbalance in the exchange rate between the Canadian and US dollars. According to Trump, this discrepancy is unacceptable and has been persistent for years.
The long-term average exchange rate between the two currencies stands at approximately one US dollar to 1.24 Canadian dollars. However, since 2015, the Canadian currency has generally traded between 1.20 and 1.45 Canadian dollars to the US dollar.
Currently, one US dollar buys around 1.38 Canadian dollars, making one Canadian dollar worth roughly 72 US cents. This disparity affects trade between the two countries, with a weaker Canadian dollar making Canadian goods cheaper for US buyers but increasing the price of American products for Canadian consumers.
