Trump Slams 'Unacceptable' Exchange Rate Between US and Canadian Dollars
US President Donald Trump has criticized the exchange rate between the Canadian and US dollars, calling it an 'imbalance' that is unacceptable.
The Canadian dollar has historically been weaker than its US counterpart for most of the past 15 years, with a long-term average of about $1 to 1.24 Canadian dollars.
Since 2015, the currency has mostly traded between C$1.20 and C$1.45 against the greenback, only reaching or exceeding parity during part of the 2007-2012 commodity boom.
The current exchange rate is around 1.38 Canadian dollars to one US dollar, meaning one Canadian dollar is worth roughly 72 US cents.
