Trump Targets Canada's Currency in Latest Trade Escalation
U.S. President Donald Trump has once again criticized Canada's currency, saying its longstanding gap with the U.S. dollar is unacceptable.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that 'Canada's (currency) Dollar imbalance with the U.S. is unacceptable. It has been that way for years - but no longer!'
The Canadian dollar has traded below the U.S. dollar for most of the past 15 years, with its longer-term average around C$1.24 per U.S. dollar.
Trump's comments come as trade relations between the two neighbors deteriorate, with negotiations having broken down and Canada preparing retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods from Sept. 8.
