Trump Targets Fed Governor Again in Renewed Threat
Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook has responded to President Trump's renewed threat to fire her from the central bank's governing board. The White House had given Cook until Wednesday to respond, but her attorneys say there is no legal basis for Trump to remove her from her position.
Cook was first targeted by Trump a year ago over allegations of mortgage fraud, which she denies. The Supreme Court ruled that Cook could remain in her position while the case is litigated, and that Trump could try to fire her again if he provided proper notice and a chance to contest it.
Cook says any errors on her part were unintentional and did not rise to a level that justified her firing. She argues that Trump's attacks are an attempt to force the Federal Reserve to bend to his will.
