Trump Targets Fed Governor Again Over Mortgage Allegations
President Donald Trump has restarted his effort to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook after the U.S. Supreme Court blocked the firing in June.
The White House sent a letter to Cook on August 5, stating that the president is considering removing her from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve due to allegations of making false statements on mortgage agreements.
Cook's attorneys claim the allegations are 'baseless' and that Trump's attempts to fire her are an attempt to interfere with the independence of the Federal Reserve.
The Supreme Court halted Trump's earlier attempt to fire Cook in June, citing a lack of notice and opportunity for Cook to respond to her termination.
