Trump Targets Fed Governor Again Over Mortgage Fraud Allegations

President Donald Trump is once again trying to remove Governor Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve Board. This move comes after the Supreme Court blocked his previous attempt in June, ruling that a president cannot remove a member of the independent central bank without proper justification.

The Supreme Court's decision stated that it was not addressing the facts of the case but rather the legal standards under which they would be evaluated.

Trump's latest effort to oust Cook is based on allegations that she committed mortgage fraud in a loan application. Dan Scavino, who heads the Office of Presidential Personnel, sent Cook a letter this week stating that there was 'sufficient reason to believe' that she made false statements on one or more mortgage agreements.

Cook's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, has responded to the allegations, calling them 'baseless.' He stated that 'no matter what President Trump tries to do next, this much is clear under the facts and Supreme Court precedent -- there is no valid cause for removing Governor Cook.'
