Trump Targets Fed Governor Despite Supreme Court Ruling
President Donald Trump has launched a new attack on Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, despite a Supreme Court ruling in June that blocked his attempt to remove her from her position.
The White House sent a letter to Cook demanding she respond to baseless allegations of mortgage fraud within 21 days. The Supreme Court had ruled that the government did not afford Cook the protections she was entitled to by statute, temporarily preserving the Federal Reserve's independence.
Cook refused to step down and sued Trump, stating that he had no authority to fire her 'for cause' when no cause exists under the law.
