Trump Targets Fed Governor Lisa Cook Again Over Mortgage Allegations
US President Donald Trump has renewed his effort to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from her position. In a letter dated August 5, signed by Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino, Trump is considering removing Cook due to allegations that she made false statements on mortgage applications.
Cook must respond to the allegations within 21 days, by August 26 at the latest. This move comes after the US Supreme Court blocked Trump's earlier attempt to dismiss Cook without giving her an opportunity to respond to the allegations.
The allegations remain unproven and Cook has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. The effort to remove Cook is part of Trump's broader campaign against the Federal Reserve's independence since returning to the White House.
