Trump Targets Fed's Only Black Woman Despite Supreme Court Ruling

The Trump administration is still trying to fire Lisa Cook, the only Black woman on the Federal Reserve Board, despite a Supreme Court ruling protecting her position. A letter from White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino informed Cook that President Trump is 'considering removing you from your position' based on allegations of mortgage fraud made against her in 2025. The accusations have been consistently denied by Cook.

Cook's fight with the administration has lasted nearly a year, with the Supreme Court issuing a 5-4 ruling in June that prevented Trump from firing her without giving her a chance to address the accusations. Despite this, the president continues to pursue questionable fraud charges against his perceived opponents, including former FBI Director James Comey and private citizens.

Cook's attorney, Abbe Lowell, pledged to continue fighting on behalf of Cook, stating 'These allegations are as baseless now as they were a year ago when President Trump tried to remove Governor Cook and interfere with the independence of the Federal Reserve.' The Trump administration's efforts to unseat Cook have been seen as an attempt to exert pressure on the Federal Reserve Board.
