Trump Targets Governor Lisa Cook Again for Fed Removal
President Donald Trump has revived his effort to remove Governor Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve Board. This is the second time he's attempted to oust her, with the first attempt in 2025 being blocked by the Supreme Court.
Trump initially tried to remove Cook due to allegations of mortgage fraud in a loan application. However, the court ruled that the president couldn't remove a member of the independent central bank without proper justification.
This time around, Trump's Office of Presidential Personnel has sent Cook a letter stating 'sufficient reason to believe' she made false statements on one or more mortgage agreements.
Cook's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, responded by saying the allegations are 'as baseless now as they were a year ago.'
