Trump Tariffs Spark Fresh Economic Uncertainty
The Bank of France governor Emmanuel Moulin has expressed concern over the impact of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on global trade. The new tariffs, which range from 10% to 12.5%, were announced on Friday and target goods from 60 trading partners, including the European Union and China.
Moulin noted that these tariffs add more uncertainty to the world economy, particularly for Europe. He mentioned that even though the EU has a trade agreement with the US, known as the Turnberry deal, which was struck in 2025 at Trump's golf course, the tariffs still pose a challenge.
According to Moulin, the tariffs 'create more uncertainty for world trade and clearly it's not favourable for growth.' This sentiment reflects the economic concerns that many experts have raised about the ongoing trade tensions between the US and its trading partners.
