Trump Threatens Fed: 'Cut Interest Rates or Face Trade Consequences'
US President Donald Trump's threat to cut interest rates has raised eyebrows globally. He warned that if the Federal Reserve doesn't lower interest rates, the US will stop trading with countries having a trade deficit.
This is not the first time Trump has suggested extreme measures to influence the Fed to lower interest rates. During his first term, he pushed for lower interest rates and in September 2019 suggested getting rates down to 'zero or less' to refinance US debt.
The US debt has crossed a record $40 trillion, with high debt numbers making investors nervous amid rising oil prices due to the US-Iran war. Trump's warnings have become more aggressive amid growing worry over US debt and trade deficit.
