Trump Threatens Fed: Interest Rate Cut or Trade Consequences

US President Donald Trump's threat to cut interest rates if the Federal Reserve doesn't comply has raised eyebrows globally, particularly in trade circles. The Fed is being pressured to lower interest rates to address growing concerns over US debt and trade deficits.

The US debt has crossed a record $40 trillion, with the latest data showing it will spend little over $1 trillion this fiscal year paying interest on the debt, equivalent to its national defense spending. The country's debt-to-GDP ratio has reached 125%, adding that federal borrowing needed to finance the US effort in World War II had only pushed the debt-to-GDP ratio to 106%.

Trump's aggressive push for lower interest rates comes as he seeks to address growing concerns over US trade deficits. The country is pressuring its trade partners, including India, to narrow their trade gaps and lower dependency on Chinese inputs. India has already taken steps to accommodate American demands by increasing energy imports and lowering tariffs on various products of US interest.
