Trump Threatens Trade Curbs Unless Fed Slashes Interest Rates

US President Donald Trump has threatened to cut off trade with countries that have a surplus with the US unless the Federal Reserve slashes interest rates.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump reacted to the latest jobs report, which showed an increase of 162,000 nonfarm payrolls in August and an unchanged unemployment rate of 4.1%.

Trump argued that high interest rates put the US at a disadvantage, stating 'A strong country means a lower interest rate - it's a better credit.'

He also suggested that the Fed Board should 'get smart' and prioritize patriotism over its current stance on interest rates.

This ultimatum has added pressure to the Federal Reserve to cut borrowing costs, with Vice President JD Vance recently calling for lower rates to make homes more affordable.
