Trump Threatens Trade Embargo Unless Fed Cuts Interest Rates
US President Donald Trump has threatened to stop trade with countries that cause a trade deficit for the US if the Federal Reserve (The Fed) does not lower interest rates. He made this threat through his social media platform, Truth Social.
In his post, Trump emphasized that the Fed should cut interest rates immediately to boost US economic growth. He urged the Fed's Board of Governors to act 'intelligently' and occasionally show patriotism in making policy.
Trump also criticized the burden the US government has to bear due to high interest rates. He stated that every one percentage point increase in interest rates could cost the country up to $650 billion a year.
