U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a threat to halt trade with countries running surpluses with the United States unless the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates.

The president made this statement on social media in response to a stronger-than-expected monthly jobs report, which showed that the U.S. economy added 162,000 jobs in August, exceeding the projected 53,000.

Trump stated that high interest rates put the nation at a 'very unfair disadvantage,' and warned that he would stop trading with countries that have a deficit if the Fed does not lower the rate.
