Trump Threatens Trade Sanctions Unless Fed Cuts Interest Rates
President Donald Trump has threatened to cease trading with several nations unless the Federal Reserve lowers interest rates. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that he would stop trading with countries that run a trade deficit with the US, which was last year at $1.2 trillion.
The US ran its largest trade deficit with China at over $200 billion last year, followed by Mexico and Vietnam. Trump said that lower interest rates are better than tariffs and urged the Fed to be 'patriots for a change.'
The threat comes after the release of August's jobs report, which showed US employers hiring 162,000 new workers, more than double the level economists anticipated.
