President Donald Trump is set to defend his economic policies in Michigan on Monday, where new Canadian tariffs may have stinging effects. Trump will visit a General Motors facility in Milford, which is home to tracks and proving grounds for new models and vehicles.

The tariffs, which include levies as high as 50% on various Canadian products, including cars, could hurt Michigan's economy, which relies heavily on trade with Canada. The state has seen parts of its economy affected by Trump's tariffs, including on imported cars and auto parts.

Trump will talk up having generated manufacturing jobs and foreign investment in the U.S., while making the case that his policies have boosted the auto industry. His visit coincides with tensions between the administration and Canada over a new border bridge.
