President Donald Trump visited Michigan to rally support and tout his tariffs as a success for car companies. However, many metrics suggest that tariffs have cost businesses in the state billions of dollars while contributing to rising inflation.

During his visit, Trump claimed that car companies are doing better than ever due to his tariffs. He also stated that 'it's amazing what tariffs will do for General Motors.'

In contrast, many Americans believe that tariffs have increased prices and hurt consumer confidence in the economy. Despite these concerns, some of Trump's supporters in Michigan still expressed their loyalty to him.

The state of Michigan relies heavily on trade with Canada, which has led to a reliance on supply chains integrated with Canada. However, Trump's administration has launched new import taxes and plans to impose 50% tariffs on many imports from Canada under the Tariff Act of 1930.
