Trump argued that his tariffs have had a positive impact on the auto industry, stating 'It's amazing what tariffs are doing for GM.' However, some businesses in Michigan contend that the tariffs have actually hurt the state. Automakers have long said that tariffs increase the cost of doing business, leading to higher prices for consumers.

The visit comes as Trump faces criticism over his handling of the economy and his latest round of tariffs on imported cars and auto parts from Canada. The new tariffs, which went into effect last week, are set at 50% on a wide array of Canadian products, including cars.
