Trump has imposed tariffs as high as 50% on Canadian products, including cars, but Michigan's economy is also affected by these levies. The state's reliance on Canada means the new tariffs are creating additional economic concerns statewide.

The visit coincides with tensions between Trump's administration and Canada over the opening of a new border bridge linking Detroit and Windsor, Ontario. The White House says Trump will talk up having generated manufacturing jobs and foreign investment in the U.S., while making the case that his policies have boosted the auto industry.
