Trump Unleashes New Tariff Blitz Targeting Over 80 Countries

President Trump has launched a new trade war strategy, imposing tariffs on more than 80 countries, including Canada, Mexico, and the entire European Union. The move is seen as an attempt to address the issue of forced labor in these countries, but critics argue that it's just a thin excuse to reimpose tariffs.

The new tariffs range from 10 percent to 12.5 percent and are open-ended, replacing expiring duties that were imposed since February. Some experts believe that the administration's use of Section 301 of a 1974 trade law will withstand legal challenges.

Trump has also imposed a new 50 percent tariff on Canadian imports and threatened a 100 percent levy on generic drugs. The EU is set to face retaliation after it fined Google more than $1 billion for illegal trade practices.

The effects of the tariffs are expected to be modest, but they could still stall the improvement in inflation since Trump returned to office. His approval ratings for handling the economy are just as low as his prosecution of the war, according to a Fox News poll.
