Trump Warns Federal Reserve: Lower Rates or Face Trade Action
US President Donald Trump is urging the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates, citing stronger-than-expected job growth. A recent jobs report showed employers added 162,000 jobs in August, exceeding market expectations.
In a post on X, Trump argued that the US should have among the world's lowest borrowing costs, as it is now a 'much stronger credit' than it was previously. He claimed that high interest rates are putting the country at an unfair disadvantage.
Trump also warned that he could take trade action against countries running large surpluses with the US if the Federal Reserve does not lower rates. He threatened to stop trading with these countries, saying 'LOWER THE RATE OR I'LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT.'
