Trump's Bid to Boot Cook from Fed Fails Again as She Rejects Mortgage Fraud Allegations
President Donald Trump's attempt to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from her position has been rejected by Cook herself. In a letter to the White House, Cook's attorney Abbe Lowell stated that there is no legally valid basis for removing Cook due to allegations of mortgage fraud.
The allegations originated with then-Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte, who accused Cook of identifying properties in Michigan and Georgia as primary residences on 2021 mortgage documents. However, Cook's attorneys claimed that she initially sought information about financing the Atlanta condominium as a vacation home and consistently listed Michigan as her permanent residence.
Cook has not been charged with a crime, and the allegations have not been proven in court. Trump first attempted to remove Cook in August 2025, but the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that she could remain on the Fed board while her challenge proceeded.
