Trump's Interest Rate Cuts Unsuccessful Amid Rising Inflation

President Donald Trump's efforts to cut interest rates have been unsuccessful so far. He has publicly pressured the Federal Reserve to lower its benchmark rates, claiming it would be 'Rocket Fuel' for growth and make housing more affordable.

The Fed's new chair, Kevin Warsh, appointed by Trump, said in his second press conference that inflation continues to run hot but offered no clear guidance on how to fix the problem. Rates on 30-year U.S. Treasury bonds hit their highest levels in nearly two decades, exceeding what Trump inherited when he returned to the White House last year.

Trump has largely ignored the jump in interest rates and has portrayed the economy as booming, despite the government reporting a sluggish annual growth rate of 1.5% for the prior three months. The president's economic messaging is struggling, with voters caring more about whether their incomes are outpacing inflation, according to research released by Georgetown University and the University of California, Berkeley.
