Trump's Tariff Tweaks: Will They Escalate Trade War or Ease Tensions?

U.S. President Donald Trump's latest trade actions have sparked debate among economists about their impact on the Canadian economy.

Trevor Tombe, an economist and professor at the University of Calgary, believes that adjusting what products are covered by tariffs is not a significant escalation in the trade conflict between Canada and the U.S.

The latest series of presidential proclamations targets certain Canadian goods, including some alcoholic beverages, dairy products, and motorcycles, with import bans coming into effect at the end of this month.

Tombe noted that 90% of Canadian alcohol exports to the U.S. will be impacted by the ban, with roughly 13% of Canadian alcohol production being exported to its southern neighbor.
