Trump's Tariffs Come Under Fire from Own Supporters Amid Rising Costs

President Donald Trump visited General Motors in Michigan this week to tout his tariffs as a major success story. He declared that 'car companies are doing better than they've ever done' thanks to his tariffs, and predicted that 'it's amazing what tariffs will do for General Motors.'

However, the reality on the ground tells a different story. Many Americans believe tariffs have pushed prices higher, contributing to inflation and hurting consumer confidence in the economy.

Even some of Trump's own supporters are worried about the impact of his tariffs. Lisa Scherer, a 64-year-old who attended the rally, acknowledged that high gas prices 'are hurting a lot' and it's 'very rough' to afford things. However, she still supports Trump overall.

Michigan is a key battleground state in November's midterm elections, and Trump's tariffs are likely to be a major issue for voters. The state relies heavily on trade with Canada, which has been affected by Trump's tariffs. Automakers have long said that tariffs increase production costs, and some have pledged to ramp up U.S. production.
