Rep. Rick Larsen, lead Democrat on the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, warns that President Trump's new tariffs on Canadian goods threaten to drive prices even higher for families and businesses in Northwest Washington.

The region already struggles with high costs and a failing economy, which USMCA was meant to alleviate. Instead of renegotiating the trade pact, Larsen suggests strengthening it through mutual agreements that create jobs and lower prices.

Since 2020, Washington state businesses have saved $126 million in direct tariff costs thanks to USMCA, according to the Washington Council on International Trade (WCIT). These savings reduce the cost of doing business and get passed along to everyday consumers.

The president's new tariffs are just another fee for struggling American families and businesses to pay. Larsen urges the Trump administration to cut the 'BS' and negotiate in good faith to enhance and renew USMCA, fully enforcing its provisions to help lower prices and create good-paying jobs.
