Trump's Trade Threats: What Should Worry Canadians Most

Donald Trump's recent social media posts have sparked controversy and concern among Canadians. While his map jokes and hockey memes may be annoying, what he says about trade should worry us.

The real threat lies in potential product bans and new tariffs, as well as devaluing the US dollar. Over the weekend, Trump mused about banning Canadian products and devaluing the American currency.

A 50% tariff on imported Canadian alcohol has already been imposed, and a ban could be next, primarily affecting the spirits industry, which sells nearly half of its products to the United States each year.

Bombardier, a Montreal-based company with significant operations in Toronto, is also at risk. Trump posted on Truth Social that he wants no more Bombardier planes sold in the US, citing that 50% of their revenue comes from American buyers.
