Trump's Trade Tirades Trigger Canadian Backlash

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney recently exposed some of US President Donald Trump's demands during trade negotiations between Canada and the US. According to Carney, Trump's team made three last-minute demands that would have compromised Canada's economy, culture, and sovereignty.

The first demand was for limits on Canada's ability to negotiate and sign trade deals, which could severely restrict its market access. The second was an attempt to restrict French language protections, including bilingual labels, in Canadian products. The third demand was for extended favorable tariff treatment for some cars and trucks but not others.

Carney said that these demands were made despite the US initially agreeing to a trade deal with Canada. He also stated that these issues were never on the table and would have compromised Canada's sovereignty.

This is not the first time Trump has been accused of making unreasonable demands in trade negotiations. In June, he claimed that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had 'begged' for a photo at the G7 Summit, which Meloni denied. Trump also recently ordered the Pentagon to cut back on joint military drills with South Korea.
