Trump's Trade War Threatens to Devastate American Economy
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that America doesn't need Canada, but the numbers tell a different story. Every day, around 4 million barrels of Canadian crude oil flow south to fuel American cars, trucks, and airplanes.
The trade between the two countries is massive, with $872 billion in goods and services exchanged last year alone. Canadian energy imports equal nearly 20% of total US petroleum consumption, according to the US Energy Information Administration.
Trump has imposed a 50% tariff on Canadian aluminum, despite acknowledging that the US badly needs the metal for its industry.
