TRY/JPY Surges 235% on Click 365 as Carry Trade Strategies Take Hold
The trading volume of TRY/JPY (Turkish lira against Japanese yen) on Tokyo Financial Exchange's Click 365 platform surged by 235.4% in August compared to the same period last year, reaching a record high of 666,619 contracts.
This marks the fifth consecutive month that TRY/JPY has ranked first by contract count, outperforming other currency pairs such as MXN/JPY (Mexican peso against Japanese yen), ZAR/JPY (South African rand against Japanese yen), and HUF/JPY (Hungarian forint against Japanese yen).
However, despite its dominance in contract count, TRY/JPY's trading value remains significantly lower than that of USD/JPY (US dollar against Japanese yen), which accounted for a massive ¥601.5 billion in August.
The wide interest-rate differentials between Turkey and Japan are seen as one possible explanation for the high-yield currencies' position, with carry trade strategies potentially contributing to the surge in trading volume.
