TSX and US Stocks Slide as Base Metals and Tech Sectors Decline
Canada's main stock index, the S&P/TSX composite, took a hit in late-morning trading on August 26, 2026. The losses were driven by declines in the base metal and technology sectors.
The S&P/TSX composite index fell 54.62 points to close at 36,903.01. In contrast, U.S. stock markets also moved lower, with the Dow Jones industrial average down 116.02 points at 53,461.38.
The Canadian dollar was trading at a relatively stable 72.01 cents US compared to 72.26 cents US on Tuesday.
