TSX Composite Falls as Financial Stocks Drag Market Down
Canada's main stock index, the S&P/TSX composite, declined by nearly 100 points in late-morning trading on August 27, 2026. The index fell to 36,718.56 due to losses in the financial sector.
The financial stocks weighed down the market, causing a significant drop in the overall index. Despite this decline, U.S. stock markets traded higher, with the Dow Jones industrial average rising by 230.87 points to 53,694.75.
The S&P 500 index also saw an increase of 50.99 points to 7,726.69, while the Nasdaq composite rose by 343.55 points to 26,473.75. The October crude oil contract was up 11 cents US at $82.34 per barrel.
The Canadian dollar traded at 72.13 cents US, a slight increase from its value of 72.07 cents US on the previous day.
