TSX Composite Hits Record High After Strong Week
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX Composite Index closed at an all-time high of 36,381.23 on Friday, August 7, marking its best week in four months with a gain of approximately 3.3%.
This surge was driven by strength in mining, materials, and real estate shares, as well as the index's substantial weighting towards commodity-linked sectors such as gold, base metals, and energy.
The rally came after a weaker-than-expected US jobs report raised doubts about near-term interest rate increases from the Federal Reserve, which benefited non-yielding assets like bullion and provided a tailwind for Toronto-listed gold miners.
