TSX Composite Index Declines Amid Weakness in Basic Materials
Canada's main stock index declined on Thursday in late-morning trading, driven by weakness in basic materials. The S&P/TSX composite index fell by 70.45 points to 36,591.69.
The Canadian dollar traded at 71.72 cents US, down from its previous value of 71.79 cents US on Wednesday.
In the US, markets were mixed. The Dow Jones industrial average dropped by 42.98 points to 53,727.29, while the S&P 500 index rose by 45.44 points to 7,793.94 and the Nasdaq composite gained 215.28 points at 26,803.77.
