TSX Composite Plunges Over 350 Points Amid Sector-Wide Decline
Canada's main stock index, the S&P/TSX composite, took a hit in late-morning trading, losing over 350 points. This decline was largely due to losses in the industrial, technology, and base metal sectors.
The S&P/TSX composite index dropped 373.20 points, closing at 36,180.72. The Canadian dollar also fell slightly, trading for 72.11 cents US compared to 72.00 cents US on Friday.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., stock markets were also down. The Dow Jones industrial average lost 347.87 points, while the S&P 500 index dropped 34.23 points and the Nasdaq composite fell by 89.63 points.
