TSX Futures Steady Ahead of Bank of Canada Rate Decision Amid Ongoing Tensions
Futures tracking Canada's blue-chip stocks were largely unchanged on Wednesday ahead of the Bank of Canada's interest-rate decision. However, markets remained cautious due to ongoing tensions in the Iran conflict and rising bond yields.
The S&P/TSX index futures were down 0.13% at 06:15 a.m. ET (1015 GMT) as oil prices hovered near one-month highs. The elevated prices have driven inflation worries, which are also fueled by concerns over ballooning government debt.
As a result, the benchmark U.S. 10-year Treasury yield reached its highest since early 2025 at 4.816%, while the Canadian equivalent stood at 3.769%. Policymakers' comments following the interest-rate decision will be closely watched, with expectations of a hold widely anticipated.
