TSX Hits Record High as Shopify Leads Charge

The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) reached its second record high in two days on Wednesday, following a 13.7% gain for the year to date and a significant 31.5% increase over the past 12 months.

This surpasses the S&P 500's performance, which has gained only 23% in the same period.

The standout performer was Shopify, which surged by 15%, reflecting its adoption of artificial intelligence and a general rebound in tech stocks after a brief downturn.

The TSX's strength can be attributed to its diversified portfolio, including gold, energy, and banking sectors. Gold prices rose by 4% as the US dollar declined, while energy companies benefited from high oil prices.

Canada's stable economy, with a projected growth rate of over 3%, is also contributing to the market's success. The country's low sovereign risk, with a triple-A credit rating and lower corporate taxes, make it an attractive destination for investors.
