TSX Pulls Back from Record High Amid Commodity Price Decline
The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) pulled back from its record high on Thursday, August 13, 2026, closing at 36,591.69 after a day of mixed trading.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index had advanced to a fresh all-time high the previous day, but Thursday's session saw a reversal driven primarily by weakness in basic materials shares.
Commodity prices across the board trended lower in early trading, putting pressure on the resource-heavy TSX index. The September crude oil contract fell US$1.44 to US$81.83 per barrel and December gold dropped US$41.40 to US$4,426.10 an ounce.
Despite the pullback, the Canadian dollar traded relatively steady at 71.72 cents US compared to 71.79 cents US on Wednesday.
