TSX Rises as Tech and Consumer Discretionary Shares Gain

Canada's main stock index opened higher on Monday, driven by gains in technology and consumer discretionary shares. The TSX gained 186.56 points to start the week at 35,555.66.

The Canadian dollar was flat at 70.92 cents U.S. Oil prices plummeted after a pause in fighting between Washington and Tehran over the weekend raised hopes of a de-escalation in the Middle East conflict.

Investors are awaiting corporate earnings from companies such as Celestica Inc. and Gibson Energy, which will provide insight into their second-quarter results.
