TSX Soars to New High as Wall Street Falters on Iran Deal Uncertainty
The TSX composite index set a new record high on Tuesday despite US equities slipping for the second day. The S&P/TSX composite index rose 17.59 points to 36,475.92, driven by gains in utilities and industrials.
In contrast, the Dow Jones industrial average dropped 184.13 points to 53,791.85, while the Nasdaq composite sank 159.91 points to 26,445.45.
Markets have been boosted by earnings reports, with portfolio manager Kevin Burkett attributing the optimism to strong corporate results.
The Federal Reserve's next move is also on traders' minds, particularly after recent trade tensions between Canada and the US.
