Turkmenistan and Japan Eye Trade Balance Shift
Turkmenistan and Japan have begun discussing ways to expand their trade and economic partnership. According to Trend, an Azerbaijani news agency, the two countries are working towards strengthening their ties, which are currently heavily skewed in favor of Japanese exports.
The latest talks aim to build on a trade flow that has seen Japan export 13.04 billion yen worth of goods to Turkmenistan in 2025, with a monthly surplus of around 2 billion yen for the country. The majority of these exports consist of industrial machinery, including motor vehicles, pumps and centrifuges, and power generating equipment.
Turkmenistan has expressed its desire to shift the balance by increasing textile sales to Japan. However, current figures show that Japan imported only $2,250 worth of made-up textile articles from Turkmenistan in 2021, highlighting the significant gap between exports and imports.
