U.S. Trade Demands Spark Criticism from Canadian Policy Expert

A policy expert at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy at the University of Toronto has criticized the U.S. for introducing last-minute demands during trade talks with Canada.

Drew Fagan, professor at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, stated that the U.S. 'crossed the line' by introducing issues such as higher tariffs for trucks, restrictions on free trade deals with other nations, and control over content regulation in Canada.

Fagan said these demands were 'extraordinarily sensitive' and that Prime Minister Mark Carney may have felt he had no choice but to introduce counter-tariffs after the U.S. broke its word despite Canadian concessions.
