U.S. Yen Support Seen as Futile Against $1 Trillion Market

A prominent currency strategist has argued that any coordinated U.S. effort to support the Japanese yen is fundamentally doomed to fail, citing the immense scale of market flows and conflicting policy objectives between Washington and Tokyo as of 2026.

The strategist points out that the global dollar-yen market trades over $1 trillion daily, making it nearly impossible for any intervention, even a joint one, to sustainably move this massive market against prevailing interest rate differentials.

The strategist also highlights a fundamental contradiction in the U.S. position, stating that intervening to weaken the dollar against the yen directly contradicts the Treasury Department's stance on a strong dollar policy.
