Swiss financial institutions are taking a closer look at stablecoins after nine companies, including UBS, began testing CHFD, a stablecoin pegged to the Swiss franc.

The pilot test aims to examine various use cases for CHFD, such as automated transactions between financial institutions, settlement of tokenized assets, and programmable payments. The test will also explore ways to reduce fraud risks in online commerce, support fair event ticket distribution, and improve public-fund disbursement efficiency.

UBS clarified that the sandbox is not part of a formal CHFD launch process but rather a stage for reviewing technical, operational, and regulatory requirements necessary for potential future adoption. The pilot test is scheduled to run through the end of this year.
