UK Business Confidence Hits Four-Month High

Business confidence in the UK has reached its highest level in four months, according to the Lloyds Business Barometer. In July, it rose five points to 49%, driven by an increase in economic optimism. This was due to several factors, including lower global energy prices and the Bank of England's decision to hold interest rates.

Optimism about the wider economy increased by 11 points to 42%, with 59% of surveyed businesses feeling positive, up four points from June. The main drivers of this increase were stronger customer demand, improving financial conditions, and better economic news.

The business confidence was not uniform across all sectors, however. Retail firms remained stable at 43%, down two points from the previous month, while smaller firms with turnover below £1 million reported a significant increase in business confidence, up 11 points to 48%.
