The UK economy has defied expectations by showing significant growth in July, despite the fallout from the Iran war. According to James Smith, Developed Markets Economist for the UK, activity increased by 0.4% against their own and consensus expectations of zero growth.

One reason behind this unexpected growth is the disproportionate increase in IT sector activity. Additionally, relatively benign inflation rates have also contributed to the positive economic trend.

However, Smith cautions that momentum is expected to slow down through the second half of the year.
