UK Economy Finds Stability Amid Stagnant Growth
Deutsche Bank's latest assessment of the UK economy reveals stagnation with emerging signs of stabilisation. This means that while growth is not strong, it's also no longer deteriorating at a rapid pace.
The bank points to a plateau in key indicators such as GDP, employment, and consumer spending, rather than a sharp rebound. The assessment is consistent with recent official data showing flat or marginal growth in the UK's gross domestic product.
Energy prices have retreated from their 2022 highs, easing the cost-of-living squeeze, while supply chain disruptions have largely normalised. However, weak productivity growth and subdued business investment remain significant headwinds for a sustained recovery.
The Bank of England has projected similar growth path with inflation gradually easing but still above the 2% target. The UK's inflation rate stood at around 4% in early 2025, down from double-digit peaks in 2022.
